History of Aberystwyth Junior Football Scheme

Aberystwyth Junior Football Schme was formed in 2004 by Peter Griffiths. The scheme first started as a Tiny Tots scheme. Where children aged between 3-6yrs old could go and play football in a fun environment and learn new skills and techniques. From 5yrs old the players attached to the scheme have enjoyed development matches against a host of professional clubs. They have also played in various festivals/tournaments across England and Wales. This proved benefical as the children development much more quickly playing against quality players and receiving quality coaching. As the children grew older Aber Utd and Aber Stars where formed and the children played in the Aberystwyth Junior League. During the 2007/2008 season the Aberystwyth Junior Football Scheme completed the FAW Trust Club Accreditation Programme, this is committed to assisting clubs in raising the standard of provision for young players in order that their experience of playing football is to be as positive as possible and that they develop as players and remain committed to staying in the game but also to protect the welfare of young players. The scheme then started 4 new teams Aber Aces, Aber Strikers, Aber Dynamos and Aber Celts to deal with the popular demand.
All the junior sides compete in local tournaments and travel afar to help their development.
All players have made positive strides in their development. Performances on the playing field were of such a high standard that certain players have impressed professional clubs and are now connected to the clubs however all players are developing in my opinion at an impressive rate. We now have 30 players attached or linked to professional clubs.
We also run a Tiny Tots programme for children aged 4-7yrs old. Which is a great way to introduce children to football in a safe and fun environment.

In 2009/2010 season we expanded again and formed Aber Devils
The scheme now boasts 7 teams and have over 100 children playing football under its umbrella making it the biggest junior club in Ceredigion
