AFC CARPENTERS 0

Report

A close contest between two teams on winning runs, someones had to come to an end today and unfortunatly it was ours. Both teams kept it tight in the opening 20mins and it started to become clear this game was going to be settled by the odd goal and it came mid-way through the first half when some sloppy play was punished. a careless pass in the Carps midfield put us under needless pressure our defence had switched off for a moment and The St Georges striker took full advantage by finishig his chance. We dusted ourselves off and pushed for an equalizer, Chris Mason had a good chance but volleyed straight at the keeper and Gerald Joseph was inches away from making contact with a dangerous cross from the left. 1-0 down at half time but we still felt we could get something from this game.
The second half started pretty much the same as the first with both sides keeping it tight at the back and most of the play happening in the middle of the park, as the game went on we had to go in serch of a goal, which was always going to leave gaps at the back and St Georges nearly caught us on the break but the striker this time struck the post. The Carps were now piling on the pressure and the chances soon came, Mason hit another volley straight at the keeper, and G came close again firing into the side netting from the angle after the keeper failed to hold a sweet strke from Matty Allen. but our best chance came in the dying minutes, Jimmy Redford flicked a free kick into the path of Gavin Tackley but the clubs Top goalscorer blasted high and wide a chance you would have put your house on him to score.
Not our day today and the end of an 8 match uneaten run in the league (A club record). Time to start another one.
