It was almost a carbon copy of Saturday-s match. We scored in the dying minutes yet again to leave Wey Valley gutted at the final whistle. This time around though I thought we were the stronger team for more of the game, creating far more real chances on goal.
Once again though we lacked the finish with Sol, Tom, Mikey and Casper all going close. We started weakly again but after 15 minutes we found our stride and spent the remainder of the the first 45 playing mostly in Wey Valley-s half. Andy D was called upon to make one or two saves but wasn-t really stretched by what looked like a weakened front-line for the Valley (most likely due to the late kick-off).
The second half saw a pumped up Froyle take to the field and within the first 10 minutes we had created a number of good opportunities going forward. Sol was playing havoc with their right back and Dazza was finding plenty of freedom out on the right. Time and again we broke with 4 as Tom supported with probing runs from deep but the final ball and finish eluded us. Meanwhile we were solid at the back and Wey Valley put us under no real pressure until after we scored.
The goal came from some fantastic play by Azzer who broke up play in the middle and played the ball out to Dazza. A deft little chip over the oncoming defender found Tom who held of a challlenge and prodded home. The ball just made it over the line as their keeper scrambled to save it.
We put the hard yards in for the final 5 minutes with Godders making another cameo up-front and Adam slotting in at left back but it took a great save from Andy D to secure the 3 points. The final kcik of the ball, a Wey Valley free-kick on the edge of the box, looked bound for the bottom corner but Andy dived full stretch and tipped the ball round the post.
The final whistle was a welcome sound as AFC Froyle finished the 2010/2011 season with two wins on the bounce.
Andy Howe picked up the final Man of the Match award of the season with another stellar performance at the heart of the defence.
