AFC Kempston is the umbrella organisation borne out of Kempston Rovers, Kempston Town and Kempston Colts along with Community Soccer Coaching a concept initiated by Colts some seven years previous.
The partnership transpired alongside a bid to improve and expand the facilities at Rovers Hillgrounds home. Back in 2000 two committee members of Rovers, Andy Kirby and Alan Scott, later joined by Dave Summerfield initiated a bid to obtain funding for a new dressing room complex and third generation all weather training pitch. The project cost was £3/4 million and after much hard work a business and development plan was presented to the Football Foundation who agreed that their was a definite need in the community for the club to expand. In 2003 the bid was accepted and the foundation provided over £600,000 towards the project. The project team then obtained other funding from Shanks First, The Bedfordshire FA and Rovers itself to meet the additional financial requirements of the bid. At this time, with the individual club’s coming together they also applied for FA Charter Standard – Community Club status. The FA recognised the potential of the combined clubs and AFC Kempston became one of the first fifty clubs in the country to achieve this recognition. The facilities and clubs are now in place to grow further in to a bright and better future for those in the community who see football as an enjoyable and interesting pastime along with providing the platform to compete at the highest level each individual club strives for.
