This was a potential banana skin of a county cup tie with Luton United always being up for a challenge against the boys. We were not helped with the loss, owing to illness, injury or non-availability of Michael, Billy and Pierre. This meant that we went into the game with 12 players. If that was not bad enough, the changing rooms were not open, the pitch resembled a ploughed field in one half and at scheduled kick-off there were no nets or corner flags. We eventually kicked off 10 minutes late. The boys however did not allow this to have an impact on their attitude or focus.
The boys started brightly against a physical and hard working Luton. The first goal came after 12 minutes when Charlie won the ball in midfield and fed Kurtis down the left who skipped passed a couple of defenders before delivering an excellent cross that was met by Charlie at the far post. 1-0.
The remainer of the half saw Kurtis get himself in scoring positions through excellent movement but he failed to hit the back of the net. Ajay had a rasping drive from 20 yards that rattled the cross bar and George had to save smartly down to his left from a 25 yard looping shot. Half time 1-0.
The second half saw the hard work and effort put in by Luton begin to take its toll as they soon tired. Charlie won a corner down the right. Kurtis delivered the restart to the far post which was met with a powerful header by Tim in the 4th minute. 2-0.
The game was then never in doubt as the resolute back 5 of George, Luke, Alex, Ben and Tim snuffed out attacks and held firm. Liam and Damaine had control of the middle of the park and the wide men of Charlkie and Ajay were creating chance after chance for Kurtis, Aaron and Nawab.
With ten minutes to go Damaine won a free kick just outside the Luton penalty area. Liam stepped up and perfectly placed the free kick in the top of the net with the keeper only able to help the ball in. 3-0.
With 6 minutes to go good work down the right by Charlie and Kurtis resulted in a cross to Nawab who had the simplest of tap ins to make it 4-0.
The boys were now cruising and in the last minute a poor clearance fell to the feet of Ajay 25 yards out who smashed the ball into the corner of the net for a comprehensive 5-0 victory and a place in the County Cup Semi-Finals.
