Stats/highlights:
RICK CRANFIELD played every minue of every game this season, averaging a goal every 73.5 minutes. He also scored in 12 consectutive games. ANDRZEJ BUDA was only 2 minutes off averaging a goal every 90 minutes. GARETH MINTER has now played 79 games for AFC Lexden which means that he has made more appearances than any other player. KEITH TUCKER is second (76), followed by STUART SAYER (75) and DAVID PHILLIPS & PAUL NICHOLSON (74). STUART SAYER became the first player to be sent off more than once for the club, and JUSTIN MAYHEW became the first player to be sent off on debut (2 bookings within 15 minutes of coming on!). DAVE PHILLIPS deserves special mention for skippering the side in the season-long absence of injured club captain PAUL BLECK, and was voted player's player of the year. The management team nominated GARETH MINTER for the Thomas Sayer award - a fitting end to a very good season for the full-back/centre forward.
Whilst the season was, on the whole a struggle, we did battle up to 4th in the league and we also finally won a Wally Castle game. In fact, we won our very strong group before going out to the eventual competition winners. The other cups were dissappointing, and an admin error meant that we were not in the County Cup (this has been recified for the 2008/09 season). The club struggled with injuries and suspensions this season, and had to sign a number of emergency players to be able to fulfill all the fixtures. At no time did AFC Lexden take to the field with less than 11 players (except when players were sent off!).
Next season will see a number of changes to the club. The main one is the change of manager. Paul Bleck and Keith Tucker remain on the committee, but they pass the managerial duties onto ANDRZEJ BUDA. We all wish the old man great success.
