AFC WEST MIDLAND EST. 2004

The current AFC West Midland was born in April 2004. The Landlord & Landlady at the West Midland Tavern pub, Jerry & Mary Jeynes, wanted a football team based from their new pub. Family member Andrew Purslow was approached to set the team up. A previous team based at the pub(West Midland FC) had left the league years previously with several financial debts owed to the League and WFA. This meant that the new club could not be called this. Mary & Jerry wanted to keep the name WEST MIDLAND, so AFC West Midland was the new name.

Entry was granted into the Worcester & District Sunday League. The clubs first league game was a disaster as several promises of players did not happen and the first ever league game on September 5th 2004 ended in a 10-0 defeat and played with only 10 men !
The season rolled on and progress was made, the first victory was 6-2 vs Northwick Vale on October 31st 2004.
The club eventually finished the season third from bottom.

Season 2005/2006 saw massive improvements, several new players joined, and results were more positive. This season included the record highest score for the club, 11-1 vs Dew Drop FC on April 20th 2005. David Pritchard was top scorer for a second season with 38 goals.

Heading into the clubs third season, due to league re-structuring, AFC West Midland actually moved up a league with the creation of a new league division 4.

With several new faces arriving in the summer, it was always going to be a test. The league would see the team finish mid table, however the cup competions provided some interest. In the Bernard Finnegan League cup, West Mids beat two higher graded sides on route to the Semi-Final. A narrow defeat to the Division 3 champions saw the side just miss out on a major cup final.
