Report

I have found it difficult to find the words to describe the events that unfolded on Sunday as for the first time this season we crashed to an embarrasing 6 - 1 hammering at top of the table Unicorn. There had been no hint in the preceeding games that the boys were about to deliver their worst performance for 9 months as we had put in two of the best performances of the season in the previous two games where the results did not reflect the superb efforts from the boys.

But for those who witnessed Sunday-s defeat like me you would have been hard pressed to recognise the team who have graced this Division. When you play a very strong outfit like Unicorn you have to be right at the top of your game, unfortunately we were at the very bottom of ours and on the day 6 - 1 could very easily been 10-1 that is how poor we were.

I am not going to dwell on this match too much as it would overshadow what has been a very good first season in what is a very good junior division. Penalties and refereeing decisions have dogged us all season but this had never let the boys see their heads down and they have faced some big challenges with great mental strength. Losing influential players to professional acadamies and unavaialbility of others at key moments hasnt helped but until Sunday we looked likely to still finish in the runners up spot. However given we only had three players this time last year to finish third is actually a great achievement. We have stressed performance over whether we win lose or draw and I can only remember one other performance where I thought we were poor and that is a great testimony to how all of our boys have come together and played as a team.

We now look forward to next season and rest assured the management and coaching staff will be improving the squad in terms of numbers and quality. The club is going from strength to strength and we shall come back in great shape. I look forward to seeing you all at the open day on Saturday 14th.

All the best Allan
