Amesbury were narrowly beaten at Windy Petersfield. On a bumpy pitch and against the wind and the slope Amesbury started brighly and Nathan Jones swept a ball over the bar on 5 minutes. Then on 25 minutes Tom Western put a nice ball through to Myles Gorey who crashed his shot against the bar. Nathan Jones had a decent shout for a penalty turned down and the home support were releived when the referee waved play on. Petersfield weren't really making the most of their advantage of the slope and wind and didn't threaten until 10 minutes from half time. Petersfield's Michael Newman ran through and not tackled and he shot wide and then he headed weakly from a cross which didn't test Danny Harrison. It looked like it was heading for a 0-0 but five minutes from half time two defencive lapses by the Amesbury defence allowed Petersfield to go in at half time with a two goal lead. Firstly, Josh Sheehan was played in down the right after Amesbury gave the ball away and his shot from a tight angle was touched home by Nick Darke, then it got worse for the visitors as on half time Michael Newman was allowed to turn and he ran on to slip the ball past Danny Harrison. Amesbury were quickly out for the second half but it was Petersfield who might have extended their lead. On 57 minutes Ryan Kennedy and Michael Newman both had efforts cleared off the line by Harrison and Pryce and then on 64 minutes Harrison saved from Sheehan and the follow up by Darke was again cleared off the line. On 67 minutes Amesbury were back in the game. A Myles Gorey free kcik on the edge of the area easily beat John Burnett in the Petersfield goal who was more concerned on listening for the referees whistle. Amesbury nearly equalised 5 minutes later when Nathan Jones got clear and one on one but his shot was saved by Burnett. On 77 minutes Myles Gorey crossed from the right and Nathan JOnes headed over and 6 minutes from time Gorey , Camilleri and Nathan Jones all combined well before Lee Bartlett saw his shot cleared off the line, Nathan Jones then had a headed 'goal' disallowed for offside and Amesbury were unable to gained a point that on the balance of play probably would have been more than they deserved.
