‘Blues just fail to contain the Greens’

AMESBURY TOWN U-14 (0) 0-1 (1) GREENMEADOW ‘A’ U-14 (Waldron 10)

The Blues put in a battling performance against the league leaders but just failed to get any reward for their effort. The visitors from Swindon were last season’s U-13 County champions
and proved to be a tough nut to crack. The opening exchanges were fairly even but Greenmeadow took a 10th minute lead when a good move on the left resulted in a skilful one two between the two strikers and Conor Waldron ran through to hammer a powerful strike past Tom Hollinworth. For most of the first period the Blues were restricted to mostly long range efforts with Harry Beckley and Jake Chambers seeing their attempts go wise. The home side’s defence were playing superbly, playing well as a unit and even when the visiting forwards did penetrate they found Hollinworth in good form and his handling was first rate. There was certainly no holds barred insofar as challenges were concerned and the Blues started to lose players through injury with Finn Drury, Nat Nightingale and Cameron Wishart all subject to periods off the field nursing injuries. Following the break it was the Blues who upped the pace gaining the positional superiority. It seemed that an equaliser was on the cards when Beckley’s fierce drive was mishandled by the Greenmeadow keeper but he recovered well to avoid the ball from crossing the line. Finn Drury just failed to convert a close range effort following a cross from the right and the visitors clung on to claim all three points. However, they certainly knew they had been in a game.
