In our first year as Appley Bridge under 10s we had an excellent season.Coming 4th in the league and winning the Challenge Cup. The first thing we had to do was prepare the 7 a-side pitch at the back of the 11 a-side pitch. We had to move a hill across the pitch were a drain had been installed and then lay grass seed to make the pitch playable which we just achieved We played 7 a-side football at Appley Bridge and it was the first junior team the club had. Under the stewardship of Norman Edmondson as Manager and John Fairhurst as coach the team had a slow start after coming from playing on all weather pitches to the first time we had played on grass. A general improvement every week was sustained and a very creditable 4th place finish was achieved. We also won the Challenge Cup at the Riverside ground at BAC/EE fulfilling a brilliant season and putting Appley Bridge on the map in junior football circles.
