The team suffered from some withdrawals due to illness and injuries with Matty and Robbie out and Pegg unable to take part on arrival due to sickness. Added to that Darren was still feeling the effects of the virus he had suffered from during the week. As usual Darren-s commtiment to the team seen him take to the field to give it his best. Thanks Darren! Rory took the gloves for the day. Thanks Rory [Great game in goals!] The team talk saw the coaches remind the team to be positive, play football and take the game to the opposition. The first half was in truth a bit scrappy. Armadale were perhaps the better team, but huffed and puffed and the ball would not break for us at times. 10 minutes into the game saw Darren coming off. It was obvious he was still suffering from the after effects of illness and in his own words "his legs weren-t working" Stevie was brought on with Craig taking the central defensive role. All the Colts were working hard, with some good work from Aidan up front and Daniel working really hard in midfield. A few chances did come bit weren-t taken. Euan who hadn-t had his readibrek that morning came off to get his feet warmed up. Things started to get a bit feisty as both teams tried to impose themsleves on the game. Under some trying circumstances our players maintained discipline. A few tactical chances took place and the game reached the half way point at nothing each. The half-time teamtalk was more encouragement to play football and not to let the other team boss us physically. The Colts went out determined and in the second half took the game to the oppostion. Darren after a cup of Julie-s homemade chicken soup was ready to come back on. It must have been good stuff! Early in the second half Euan ran onto a forward ball and lobbed a high ball over the keeper into the net! Goal number three of the season. The Colts were really up for it and everyone was putting in a great shift. Martin-s skill was outdoing the oppositon defence and some good figthing and chasing from Stevie created chances. Aidan-s skill and determination created a couple of chances and was denied at the last minute on a couple of occasions. A blow to the team saw Nico, who had been playing well on the left, taken off due to injury. The second goal did come through a bit of a "stramash"with Aidan nipping in amongst the melee to tuck the ball away. No more than his hard work deserved. Shortly after a third goal was added after some good build up play with Martin deftly slotting the ball into the net. Throughout the game the defence stood up well with Adam battling well and Dylan making great use of the ball. George and Darren marshalled the centre well. A deserved victory that sees the Colts through to the semi-final of the Jason Wardrop Cup. Every member of the team played well and the man of the match choice gave the coahces a dilemma. However this went to Daniel. Daniel was playing in an unfamiliar role but battled like a titan against bigger players. He was tireless and showed a great attitude to team play. Well done Daniel!
