Started my involvement with Banc as a 16 year old, many years ago !!! In those days the Reserve team struggled for players, which led to the disbanding of the Reserves a few years later, as a result of which I transferred to Porthyrhyd, to continue my playing career, and enjoy many years of being part of an excellent Club.
I returned to Banc in 1986, and was involved in gaining promotion to the 2nd Division, scoring both goals in a 2 – 0 final match victory over Penyfan to secure promotion.
Many enjoyable years followed, when I excelled in my role of “Tour Organiser” and “Kitty Collector”. The highlight must be the trips to Wexford where the “craic” was first enjoyed in 1992. Recording our “Triple Crown” on our third visit in 1996, left me with a broken ankle ( honestly done during a match ) which effectively ended my playing days.
In a moment of madness, shortly afterwards I decided to take up refereeing, which I stuck at for 8 years. Despite all the alleged problems, it was generally an enjoyable experience, giving me the opportunity to referee Junior Cup Finals and International teams at the Ian Rush tournament in Aberystwyth.
During this time I also got involved with coaching the Banc Juniors, and gained my FAW Junior Leader award, before calling it a day to become a “full time” supporter.
It was an honour to be associated with the Club in their 50th Anniversary Year, which culminated in an excellent dinner in March 2008.
Taking over as the Club Chairman this year is again an honour. Whilst there is much work to be done, I hope to lead by example, and form a sound base from which the club can hopefully flourish in the future.
