Report

Scout camps, injuries and other impediments meant we turned up for the much postponed Harrogate railway game with just ten men. On a very heavy and big pitch with a swirling wind it proved too big a hurdle and we went down 9-2. Despite some brave goalkeeping by stand-in keeper Jack  we found ourselves four nil down at halftime. Too many Bedale boys stood watching as Railway pounced for rebounds. The second half was a bit better and at least we got on the scoresheet. Good work from Jack and George in the middle to win the ball and pass it through to Dan who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.  A  few minutes later we had another. This time it was Ollie Pennock who won the ball and passed to Dan who dribbled across the face of the goal to create the space to finish well. Whilst some heads dropped Ali Buckton played as a captain should and never gave up – at one point winning four headers in as many seconds. So we complete our first season in the Harroagte and District League and finish in sixth place. Hope you enjoyed the ride. Facilities: No changing rooms but pitch well marked and decent considering the heavy rains. 6/10. Butty rating: no refreshments available 0/10. Friendliness, coach and team a credit to the league but shame it took so long to get this game played. 8/10. Total 14/30.
