Bedfont Sports Under 11 Girls Season Review. (07/03/2008)

Champions!

After a fantastic, blistering season start and stuttering middle, the girls managed to regain composure to clinch the Under 11’s Division One Title of the Surrey County Girls League. Thanks to the grounds staff keeping the pitches in great condition and allowing the odd away match to be played at Bedfont when other teams grounds were waterlogged or frosted, Bedfont amazingly play their last match this weekend away to Woking Cougars.

The girls have had an amazing turn of fortune from last season. After finishing bottom of the league for 2006-2007 in the Under 10s league, the girls played plenty of tournaments and ended with a fantastic win at Molesey Juniors against the hosts. With some hard work, the coach, parents and most importantly the girls were ready to do battle with some new and some old clubs who dropped down with them.

With a great home start against Knaphill 4-0, the next trip was to Abbey Rangers who managed to beat them twice last season. This game turned out to be a great game in a series of matches which both parents enjoyed all 3 encounters with end to end action. With a third of the season gone the girls were approaching Christmas unbeaten, the return fixtures against the newer teams proved to be a harder battle as they’d much improved and games against Queens Park proved to be nail bitters.

Christmas came and went and the girls struggled to regain their form. Matches were drawn and lost and the other teams continued to improve and take valuable points away from us. With an away match looming against what seems our bogey team South Park Girls, this could have been more points lost with four teams chasing behind us for the title but the girls put in an amazing display, played South Park off the Park, only to come away with a draw.

The girls then clinched the title on a freezing cold morning at Ascot based on head to head wins with Knaphill but they confirmed it with a 3-1 win against Abbey Rangers. We have seen great improvement in the team as a whole, some individuals have stepped up to the plate to become match winners which is great to see but all in all the girls thoroughly deserve the accolade of “Champions”, roll on 2008-2009 Premier League, Bedfont Sports Under 12’s Girls are up for the challenge! Congratulations to Chelsea Imbastari, Amy McCann, Jessica Bardini, Rachel Payne, Lucy Curly, Lacey Mackintosh, Emma Worley, Emma Coster, Emma Thorne, Shannon McHugh and Sam Williams
