Club History

Belmont Juniors was formed as a Junior sporting section for the sons and daughters of Police staff as the Metropolitan Police sports club Chigwell. The clubs origins start in 1986 when John Sellar our 1st Chairman approached the sports club house and ground committee to form a section which would promote children taking an active part in sport.
Various sports were considered but it was football that received the most support, so in the summer of 1987 the first training session was held which attracted 7 boys. Mini soccer had not been invented so further boys were recruited to form our first team. They were entered into the Waltham Forest league and the name Belmont was adopted because of its strong links to the sports club which was formally Chigwell Hall.

In the following years teams were added on a yearly basis and we went outside the confines of the club to non Police staff and we now nearly 180 children playing from years under 8 to under 18.

Domestic success was hard to come by, but in 1991 the under 10 team completed the league and cup double. Success followed over the next few years and in 1996 the club moved to the Harlow league.

1998 saw the introduction mini soccer (7-A side) and in 1999 our under 9s won their division.

In 2000 the mini soccer section moved to the Chelmsford Youth Football League while the 11 aside teams played in the Potters Bar league however, now all our teams play in the Chelmsford Youth Football League.

In 2002 we were one of the first clubs in Essex to be awarded the FA Charter Standard a set of criteria which the club has to submit evidence to show they meet the standard required. I am pleased to say that even prior to this standard being created we were already practising most of what was required. Some of the benefits are that all our coaches/mangers are at least FA level 1 coaching trained, they are trained in basic first Aid, any adult who has contact with the children in our care are CRB checked and there is a child protection policy and officer in place.
Over the years our teams have ventured abroad and have played in France, Belgium, Germany ,Holland, Italy and Spain.

The clubs philosophy on Football is simple we aim to provide a safe and secure environment where children can take part in football, where winning is nice but not, the be all and end all. It is the individual player and teams development that is important.
