HISTORY

The Belvedere Football Club originated from the old Erith Technical Institute, which is now called Bexley College. The Institute students in 1910 formed an Association and in 1911, this was charged with the development of the social and athletic side of the Institute. In April 1921, the Association decided to remember the 25 students and 2 teachers who gave their lives in the Great War. This took the form of the present location and was named, ‘The War Memorial Sports Ground’. The memorial is overlooking the playing field.
The football section joined the newly formed South London Football Alliance League (SLFAL) in September 1921, moving the War Memorial Sports Ground in 1923.
1968 saw the club change its name to Belvedere Sports Club and on August 24, 1974, the present brick built pavilion was formally opened to replace the wooden original. Throughout he next decade, the Association was probably at its strongest, running Tennis, Football, Cricket, Hockey, Badminton, Table Tennis sections and briefly a Tug-of-War section.
During this period, the football club quickly expanded and ran Saturday and Sunday sides as well as junior sides. This saw league success in the old Sidcup & District league and the SLFAL and the Metropolitan Sunday football League. This was also was accompanied by cup success.
In 1992, the football club left the SLFAL after 70 years of involvement and joined the South London Federation League where they won Division Two in the first season and went on to become Runners-up in the Kent Junior Cup the following season.
In 1993/4, they joined the Kent County League, starting in Division three. They were Champions in the Millennium year and then gained promotion to their present position of Division One in 2002.

The last three seasons has seen the club be losing finalists in both the Hospitals Cup and the Kent County League Reserve Division Cup. Over this period, the club also won the League Fair Play Award twice and entered a team in the Kent Youth League for the first time. This season has seen the club achieve the FA Charter Standard Club Award.
Belvedere Football Club is now looking build upon this and to re-introduce Youth teams and all ages.
