Billingham town ladies fc Vs Tyneside ladies fc

Billingham started today with Sarah Jackson replacing in goal with Heather on volleyball duty, Lauren Nichol started on the bench after her holidays.

Billingham went into today’s game wanting revenge for the league & cup double defeats from Tyneside from last season, both teams started off at a good pace, with only 10 minutes gone Billingham could & should have been 3-0 up with Beth, Alex & Rachel having good scoring opportunities, the positive being we started well & the forwards were in the right place at the right time.

In the 14^th minute totally against the run of play Tyneside broke away & a hit a cracking 25 yard strike which flew past Sarah, 0-1.

Tyneside continued to look for a 2^nd goal & a ball into the box was judged to be handled outside the area by Anna & a free kick was given, Billingham lined up a wall & the direct free kick was shot wide.

Billingham had another scoring chance when Chelsea Buttery found Alex who did well beating 2 players, then laying the ball in for Hayley to shoot but again another chance went amiss, But Billinghams never say die attitude paid off 10 minutes later in the 32^nd minute when we won a free kick 45 yds out from goal, the Tyneside defence held a tight line on the 18 yd box, Leigh chipped a great ball over the top & Alex latched onto it & stuck the ball beautifully from 17 yds giving the keeper no chance & making the score 1-1.

2 minutes later Leigh picked up a loose ball strode forward & shot well from distance but the keeper had it covered. Tyneside kept battling away to regain the lead & it looked inevitable that  they would in the35th minute when a lovely ball was slid through beating the Billingham defence, but Sarah was alert & came out quickly to thwart any chance of a shot.

5 minutes before half time a big kick out from Sarah was brought down well by Beth & placed through to Alex who once again struck the ball superbly from 20 yds & over the top of the keeper for a 2-1 lead.

HT 2-1

The 2^nd half started with Beth coming off injured to be replaced by Lauren. Both teams started off like the beginning of the 1^st half at a good pace but chances were few & far between for the first 10 minutes with both teams cancelling each other out.

With 55 minutes gone Lauren battled well for a ball out on the left crossed it into the box, but Rachel knocked the ball over the bar, 2 minutes later a similar move occurred but this time Loz got the shot in, the keeper saved well but the ball fell for Rachel to slot the ball home giving Billingham a 2 goal cushion.

70^th Min, a corner took by Alex was met well by Beth rising above everyone to head home, & Billingham winning 4-1.Billingham were keeping Tyneside at bay only allowing shots from 20 – 30 yds, but a long ball over the top bounced over Chelsey & fell nice for the Tyneside striker to blast the ball but Sarah once again bravely put her body on the line blocking from point blank range keeping the final score 4-1.
