History

From Rags to Riches!
15 Aug 2006

The history of Birmingham Athletic Ladies Football Club - formed under the name of The University of Birmingham Ladies Football Club.

After unsuccessful searches for a local club to play for, a small group of football playing graduates came together in 2001 and founded The University of Birmingham Ladies Football Club.

The club entered straight into the West Midlands Regional Division One Central League and although the squad was small had a successful and committed first season. By the end of the 1st season, the club had attracted new players from all over the local area, players who were impressed by the progress being made by the team, its training facilities and the overall organisation of the club.

From the 2001/2002 season with a core seven or eight players committed to training and match days, the club now has an established squad of 20 plus players all competing for a place in the starting eleven.

Season 2006/2007 has already seen a number of changes with the clubs name changing to Birmingham Athletic LFC to reflect the changing nature of the club over the years and the clubs continued commitment to establishing a local and highly accessible club and the appointment of a new committed and experienced manager.

The team have a very exciting and demanding season ahead of us!
