Girls get a kick out of the beautiful game
01 Feb 2012
A group of young female footballers were put through their paces at an open day on Saturday 25th February.
About 20 girls aged between six and 13 visited Birstall United Juniors FC's home at the Meadow Lane Sports ground to take part in games and learn about the club. They were coached through a variety of football-related activities under the guidance of David Preston with players from the under 15s girls team.
Organiser and under 16s coach Mick Joinson said:
"Some of the girls had never played before so it was great that they came down for their first taste of football.
"We're looking to encourage more members because we want to build on the teams we've got. The open day went really well and we are hoping to hold more events in the future."
Any one is welcome to attend sessions at the Meadow Lane sports ground in Birstall, on Saturdays between 11am and midday.
