Report

Bishopton finally managed to put a performance together when it mattered, anything other than a win on the last day of the season would have saw them relegated to the second division, but a magnificent team performance from everyone involved saw them thump Partick West and keep their place in the top tier for another year.

Bishopton legend Stevie Dalling was late replacement for Martin Fitzsimmons, the wee man picking up an injury in the warm up.

A huge crowd gathered in the blistering sun at the top park to watch this massive game and they were not to be disappointed.

Right from the first whistle Bishopton were dominant.  Gregor McVicar and Mark McGregor both passing up great chances to get the early goal, but both saw close range shots fly wide.

Craig Riddle also had a free header fly wide of the top hand corner.

Partick West were not causing too many problems going forward but almost took a freak lead, a thirty yard shot straight at Logue in goal took a freak bounce on the solid surface, Logue did well to divert the ball in the air and then did even better to divert the ball over the bar at full stretch and a second horror bounce.

The second half saw Bishopton dominate from the first whistle and they got the goal they desperately wanted, a cross from the right was brilliantly volleyed home from Tam McMillan to give Bishopton a vital lead.

Partick West almost drew level immediately; however Logue in goal produced a magnificent point blank stop to keep his side in front.

Stevie Dalling then produced a fabulous block from close range to keep Partick at bay.

Bishopton then extended their lead; a cross from the right evaded the Partick defence and found the diving head of Craig Riddle who headed past the keeper from close range to send the sideline wild.

Tam McMillan and Mark McGregor both saw great shots brilliantly saved by the sub Partick keeper as Bishopton pushed for third goal.

McMillan wasn't to be denied though and he grabbed his second, rounding the keeper and slotting home from a tight angle to make it three nil.

Partick were a beaten side but grabbed a goal late in the game, a quick free kick caught Bishopton napping and was slotted home from close range.

However and nerves were settled in the last minute, Tam McMillan was denied by the keeper, however Billy Taylor kept the move alive and squared to Iain Cameron who neatly finished from close range to settle the game and keep Bishopton in the league and relegate East Kilbride United and send Renfrew to the playoff.
