Club History |
BITTON A.F.C.
Bitton A.F.C. was founded in 1922. They play at the Recreation Ground, which is on the outskirts of the village of Bitton, which lies on the A420 between Bath and Bristol. This has been their home since the club was formed. There is very little history of the club before the Second World War. From 1945 up until the late 1980’s they ran teams in the Bristol and District Football League with limited success.
In the 1989/90 season the club 1st team played in the Senior Division of the Bristol and District Football League. After winning promotion two years in succession the 1st team started the 1991/2 season playing in the Premier Division of the Bristol Premier Combination. Season 1994/5 was to prove one of the club’s most memorable, winning the GFA Senior Amateur Cup, finishing Runners-Up in the Bristol Premier Combination, and being promoted to the Gloucestershire County League.
Season 1996/7 proved even more memorable, when the club reached the GFA Trophy Final, losing narrowly to Mangotsfield United . The club also finished Runners-Up in the Gloucestershire County League, and were promoted to the Western League First Division.
In season 2003/2004, after 7 seasons in the Western League First Division, the Club achieved its highest ever status, when finishing runners up, and being promoted to the Premier Division
Over the last decade the club has matched its playing performance with many off the pitch developments. A stand seating 50 was built. Covered accommodation for 150 was erected. In February 2001 floodlighting was installed, which is up to Conference standard. The summer of 2004 saw the building of a new dressing room block, including a kitchen and boardroom and also a floodlight multiple use games area.
The club junior section runs teams from 6 years to 16 years. The club also runs two Youth teams, a 3rd team in Division 1 of the Bristol and District League, and a 2nd team in the Premier Division of the Bristol Premier Combination.
Season 2004/5 was the clubs first in the Premier Division of the Western League, finishing in ninth position after a poor start. The club now plans to consolidate and improve ground facilities in the coming twelve months.
