Match Report

Earls Hall United Res'

Sat 13 Dec, 2014

Star player: Jason Venner

Barry Moore (1)

Ian Jeffery (1)

Jason Venner (1)

Scott Church (1)

This was an excellent performance, the first half in particular was top drawer as we dominated the match with some outstanding passing and movement.

We started the match very strongly but Earls Hall caught us out after four minutes when a speculative shot from 30 yards clipped the underside of the cross bar before finding the back of our net.  We did not let this rattle us however and we continued to dominate the match with some great passing and movement.  We should have been right back in the match after twenty minutes but a series of good saves and some near misses denied, Scotty, Bassy, Jason and Sparrow and consequently we remained a 1-0 down.  We finally found the equaliser that our dominance deserved with 25 minutes gone when Jason Venner played a nice through ball for Sparrow, even though he was forced wide by the Earls Hall defence, Sparrow found the net from a narrow angle with a well struck shot.  A few minutes later we took the lead, Phil Hughes made a mazy run off the right wing before playing a great ball for Scott Church to calmly finish at the far post.  By this time we were really on fire and on the stroke of half time we were awarded a penalty kick after another great passing move forced a handball from the Earls Hall defender.  Jason Venner stepped up and dispatched a great spot kick to register his first goal for BKS Sports.  At half time we thoroughly deserved our 3-1 lead.

The second half remained one way traffic in our favour but unfortunately without the end product and quality that we had produced in the previous 45 minutes.  We had a lucky escape with 20 minutes remaining when the referee waved away a strong Earls Hall penalty claim but apart from this, excellent defending and assured keeping by Dan Sibthorpe meant that our goal was rarely threatened.  With 10 minutes remaining Charlie had to leave the field as he had been carrying a groin injury for most of the game, but he had battled on bravely as Ian was our only available substitute.  With five minutes to go we should have extended our lead when Jason was bundled over in the box but unfortunately Sparrow fired the resulting spot kick a couple of yards wide.  We were not to be outdone however and in the final minute we scored our fourth goal to wrap up the game.  Scott Church collected a pass from Paul Souter 25 yards from goal and played an excellent lofted pass into the path of Ian Jeffery who had made a good run down the inside left channel and as the ball dropped over his right shoulder he finished with a well-timed left foot half volley on the stretch to complete an excellent move.  Good performance again today lads!  Jason Venner was voted Man of the Match for another outstanding performance in midfield.
