Report

The second round of the west Lancashire league cup gave Blackpool the opportunity to renew acquaintance with Aspull Juniors, who are currently top in the leagues Western division, having won 6 of their 7 league games. Blackpool started well with a 4 man passing movement showing promise in the third minute before Rebecca Brownwood’s covering averted a potentially dangerous situation 2 minutes later. Hannah Speake did

well to hold on to the in swinging corner that followed. With 7 minutes gone Fiona Crackles played Kayleigh Monaghan put through to test the Aspull keeper.

With 10 minutes gone, Blackpool brought the save of the match from Aspull's keeper as Monaghan's low drive, destined for the bottom left hand corner, was tipped round the post. Two minutes later, it was Speake's turn to keep the game goaless with an excellent stop from Aspull's dangerous number ten.

Blackpool were building pressure as Ellie Spooner's left wing cross was missed by 2 players before a Lizzie Bradley corner sparked a goal mouth scramble. Another Bradley corner in the eighteen minute found Spooner whose close range effort was superbly saved.Aspull were proving resilient as Bradley was forced to shoot wide, the keeper saved well at Monaghans feet before Charmaine Cardwell's storming run from deep created another scramble which Aspull somehow survived to finish the half goalless.

Thanks largely to their keeper Aspull were proving a tough nut to crack and when they won the first corner of the second half in the 27th minute Blackpool had to be alert to clear the danger. The breakthrough finally came in the 30th minute when Cardwell linked well with Spooner before sending over a left wing cross that created another goalmouth scramble which Monaghan ended by putting the ball in the net from close range. Blackpool

won the ball straight back from the kick off and Captain Crackles finished a mazy run by slotting the ball into the bottom right hand corner.

.Blackpool were in control and dominance was confirmed 2 minutes later when player of the match Monaghan volleyed home Bradley's right wing cross to make it 3 nil to the Seasiders. In the 35th minute Cardwell made a good block to deny Aspull an opportunity which presented Alice Smith with the opportunity to lead a counter attack. Aspull's keeper saved well from Brownwood in the 45th minute as Blackpool sought to finish with a flourish creating several opportunities. With 2 minutes left Aspull's keeper again saved well from Brownwood only to see Verity Kinnon bury the rebound to round off an excellent team performance.
