Report

Blackpool were looking to get through this tie without the need for extra time or penalties, as previous encounters had always been very close affairs.

True to form Fillies were straight at Blackpool from the whistle with Erin Croft being called upon to make a save in the opening minutes. Blackpool soon got themselves together though with two corners one after the other.

Blackpool mounted an attack with resulted in left back Stephanie Haigh taking her chance with a shot going wide. Natasha Fenton had a shot denied with a great pass through from Karis Harrison. Blackpool worked hard to keep posession in the Fillies half with a run from Fenton through to Hannah Wright forcing the excellent Fillies keeper to make a save.

Persistence from Blackpool paid off with player of the match Chyna Appleton making some great runs and battling hard for Fenton to open the scoring on ten minutes. Blackpool seemed to have the uppper hand for spells of this half with four corners eventually paying dividends for Wright who got Blackpool's second on 18 minutes. It wasn't all one way traffic though when Fillies broke through Pool's midlfield Amy Sudworth and Eleanor Bannister had to be on their mark as any lapse in concentration could easily have resulted in a goal to Fillies. Natasha Marshall worked hard in midfield and nearly scored narrowly missing the goal from a Blackpool corner. At half time Blackpool were in a two goal lead.

Second half Blackpool needed to keep a tight ship as the players knew that Fillies were not going to conceed defeat lightly. Fillies team talk seemed to have paid off because they came and attacked immediately from the whistle.

Blackpool were prepared and Evren Verdu, Sudworth and along with Haigh had the situation covered. Blackpool resumed possession and great play from Appleton, Fenton and Harrison led to Blackpool's third and only goal of this half from captain Harrison.

Jordyn Ellison keeper in the second half of the game was called into make two great saves. Substitute Ellie Fisher had a great chance put through from Haigh which just glanced the side post. Special praise goes to the Fillies keeper who pulled off some spectacular saves to keep the score at three with further shots from Appleton, Harrison and Fenton.

Fantastic effort from Blackpool to take them through to the semi-final of the league cup.
