The cup final began in the fantastic venue of Airbus UK, Broughton in Wales. It was Blackpool FC that started the game brightly with some fantastic interplay. Dannii Cross went the closest early on but unfortunately for The Seasiders the ball rolled the wrong side of the post. However, it wasn’t too long before Dannii Cross found herself bearing down on the Wrens goal and this time made no mistake and put Blackpool FC 1-0 up with 10 minutes gone. Blackpool doubled their lead after a great play between Mac Barlow and Dannii Cross saw the youngster pick out Millie Brown in the area, Brown made no mistake in finishing and with only fifteen minutes on the clock, Blackpool were in the ascendency.
With Blackpool completely dominating the game it was only Berko in the Wrens attack that looked like causing Pool any threat at all. It was only another five minutes until Blackpool added their third, after some fine play from Oatley, Barlow and Brown the ball made its way to Emma Ambrose. Ambrose made no mistake with a stunning 20 yard strike and put Blackpool 3-0 up and it looked like Blackpool FC were already out of sight. Blackpool continued to keep the ball and make a dogged looking Wrens side chasing shadows.
On the half hour mark Megan Healey’s superb driven corner was met emphatically by Mac Barlow as she thundered a header home from close range. 4-0 on the scoreboard, 30 mins played; Blackpool FC were in dreamland.
The Half time score was Blackpool FC 4-0 Blackpool Wren Rovers.
Into the second half, Blackpool had other chances to add to the score with Brown, Cross, Preston and Healey all going close.
It was Wren Rovers who got a consolation goal on the hour after some poor defending in the Seasiders area, lead to a close range finish.
Although Wren Rovers had other clear chances to reduce the deficit a combination of good goalkeeping from Findlay, good defending from the Pool backline and some dreadful finishing from the Wrens forwards saw the score line stay at 4-1.
Blackpool Manager Dave Kelly
Delighted with today, to go 4-0 up within half an hour in a cup final just shows how special this squad is. A very proud day for all involved at the club.
