CHAMPIONS AT BIRKDALE

Blackpool FC Girls new U11’s squad travelled to Birkdale for their Annual Tournament, Blackpool’s first game was against Hesketh Colts, Blackpool wasted no time and went 1 – 0 up after the first minute through Sheneill Lymer, Blackpool passed the ball well and it wasn’t long before they added a second through Imogen Purdon, Lymer then went on a solo run and added a third, Sophie Slater then got in on the act for Blackpool’s fourth, good work by Lymer got her a hatrick and Blackpool’s fifth, Hesketh kept battling away and scored a consolation goal however Lymer who was outstanding got her fourth goal of the game to make the score 6 – 1.  Good start by the girls.

 

Next up were Town Green, another fine performance scoring early on to settle the players, Sophie Slater got the first, Blackpool’s 2nd came through good work from Hannah Bettison who played a one two with Slater who calmly finshed in the bottom corner, good work by Darcy Barratt got Blackpool’s third, good work by Katie Odonnell finds Barratt on the right wing who’s perfect cross could only be deflected in with good pressure from Bettison for Blackpool’s fourth.

 

Blackpool met a tougher test in Brazil girls in their next game, as both teams started well it was end to end stuff, Sheneill Lymer broke the deadlock with a mazy run going past three Brazil players and rewarded with a blazing shot in the bottom right hand corner,  Darcy Barratt and Imogen Purdon linked up well for Blackpool’s second as Purdon neatly finished, Blackpool’s defence of Odonnell, Burns & Brodie kept Brazil out with a few good saves from Goalkeeper Lucy Williamson to see the score finish 2 – 0, another fine performance.

 

Euxton Girls were next Blackpool full of confidence, another good test for the girls as both teams started well and no deadlock was broken before half time, second half saw Aleysha Montgomery feed Lymer only to see her shot skim the cross bar, then a touch of class from Sophie Slater broke the deadlock as she weaved her way through three players to finish with a magnificent strike, good defending by Blackpool sees the ball break to Salter again who made no mistake to make it 2 – 0 to Blackpool and game over.

 

Blackpool through to the semi final met Hesketh Colts once again, after beating them in the opening game this was a lot different as both teams battled hard to break the deadlock , once again it was the outstanding Sheneill Lymer who broke the deadlock with a great strike half time 1 – 0.  Second half started with good efforts at goal by Hannah Bettison, Lymer and Slater.  Blackpool’s second came from good play between Aleysha Montgomery, Sophie Slater and Imogen Purdon, Purdon finshed with a peach to put Blackpool through to the Final.

 

Blackpool met Euxton girls in the Cup Final, both teams started well , Darcy Barratt makes a good cross to Purdon who’s effort hits the post, excellent work by Lymer sees her with an opportunity in front of goal, she made no mistake and drilled the ball hard and low for Blackpool’s first, good work from Sophie Burns and Katie Odonnell led to Blackpool’s second when Burns found Salter who made no mistake for Blackpool’s second, Blackpool continued to work hard right to the very end and deserved to be Champions.
