NEW SPONSORSHIP DEAL
Date: 30/06/06
The football club is very happy to announce that we have agreed the biggest sponsorship deal in our history today.

It brings to an end our great relationship with HMR sadly but we were unable to confirm with them their continued support in recent weeks. This meant we had to look elsewhere to secure our financial future.

Luckily, Luke Goddard put us in touch with Tony Horrocks of HORROCKS AND WEBB jewellers of Blandford. He was very keen to support a local team and I was able to negotiate a fantastic package with him.

Without going into too much detail at this point, it will enable us to purchase a new kit in the H&W colours of sky and navy blue [ see photo gallery for the picture of the new kit ]. We should also be able to purchase some footballs and we will aim to purchase new t-shirts too. On top of that, H&W can help us with trophies at the end of the season and we are trying to negotiate a shop discount also.

Tony was very pleased that we are aiming to join the Blackmore Vale League as this will promote us in a better area for the company.

Because of all this, it obviously means a change of name for the football club. After discussion with one or two players already, Tony agreed that the name BLANDFORD TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB summed up what we are about - a football team that is representing the town.

I would like to thank Tony and Horrocks and Webb for their fantastic gesture and we hope that the partnership will benefit everyone.

BLACKMORE VALE LEAGUE: Having just spoken to Kevin, the acting chairman of the league, I am given the impression that we are virtually assured of entry into Division One for 2006/7. STOP PRESS: WE HAVE BEEN OFFICIALLY ACCEPTED! Unlike the Dorset FA, the BV League is run by the clubs with people appointed to oversee the rules are adhered to. He now has to contact all the clubs in division one for their approval but he sees no reason they will object. As soon as this has been done, it will be official, the forms can be signed and we can move leagues. Until the whole thing is official, we cannot resign from our current league of course.

The whole aim of the BV League is to be a friendly league. So we can hopefully just turn up and play and have no worries about any trouble! Apart from one trip to Bruton, most of the other teams are from easily accessible places. Jon Fancy of the Dorset FA has stated the BV League is Dorset Div 3 standard "at best" but 1: this is probably sour grapes as the BV League is growing every season [ Stickland are also coming over this season in Div 2 and Spurty in Div 1 ] and 2: even if it IS a slightly less high standard, it would hopefully mean we would be more successful! The only trophy we have won was the Div 3/4 League Cup and that was possibly the best game we ever had....winning is great, it doesn't matter what level??

The cost for the club this season will remain the same but we hope that from next season, we can start to reap the benefits of slightly cheaper football.

It seems very sad to see the end of 'BLANDFORD HMR FC' but we now have to look to the future and welcome 'BLANDFORD TOWN FC'!

MORE NEWS AS IT HAPPENS....

Possible League Change?
Date: 29/06/06
Most of you might be aware that we have had a few troubles with the dorset fa over the years, what with being fines left right and centre. also, the cost of joining rises every season, being over £300 this season for all league, cup and insurance.

bearing this in mind, we now have the chance to move to the BLACKMORE VALE LEAGUE and ultimately reduce the costs of running the club.

at this point, the secretary of the BV league has written to say that they would offer us a place in division one for this coming season. it just needs some very fast decision making though, as if we were to remain with the dorset fa, time is up for submitting the forms!

i thought i would jot down a few of the pro's and cons of playing in the BV league:

PRO'S: cheaper fees overall. 135.00 for the first season which includes a deposit and then about 90.00 for subsequent seasons. add to that affiliation to the dorset fa and entry to the junior cup, plus the usual insurance. as we are currently classed as a senior club, we would save money as a junior club.
we wouldn't be saving any money this season as such, due to having to pay a fine to the dfa for resigning though but it would be cheaper in the long run, meaning signing fees could be kept lower than in the dorset fa from next year.
we would be able to play new clubs in nice settings! no more hamworthy lions at turlin moor! no more freezing our nuts at whitecliff! etc. the new teams in dorset div one don't seem to be the friendliest on paper and teams from bournemouth and poole tend to be less sporting on occasions!
the BV league will offer us 18 league games plus entry into 2 different cups. on top of that we would be in the dorset junior cup, with a better chance of progressing than at present. there is also a plan to hold a league cup towards the end of the season, so the amount of games we would play wouldn't really be any different. [ we played 23 games this season i think ].

overall, i feel its a chance to venture into pastures new and hopefully progress as a club. i have no idea if we would win the league [ spurty ceramics have also joined as a comparison ] but i do think we would do well in the league and all the cups.

CONS: the main one being the travelling to strange places. the furthest trip would be to bruton in somerset, which is about 55 minutes drive [ no further than swange though ]. there would be maybe a couple more trips to the somerset borders but on the other hand, there should be teams from shaftesbury, stur newton, marnhull and sherborne, which are all easily accessed. bearing in mind we would have trips to swanage, hurn airport, wallisdown and even places like whitecliff, all are 30 minutes plus from blandford. the travelling wouldn't be much different, it would just be north of blandford and not to the south!
meeting times at tesco might be occasionally earlier but overall, it wont be much different to how it has been.
the other problem is the 75.00 fine but i don't see this as something to hold us back. we will be paying roughly 300.00 either way and i see this as a chance to make the break for the long term good of the club.

in summing up...once people think of the travelling, i hope they wont see it as a problem. we do have some players that live north of blandford anyway, so some games will be much easier for them to get to. we may never get any higher in dorset division one so its a chance to become a real force in a new league. and maybe some will find it exciting to venture away from the beaten track a few times and play teams from another county. and beat them!

please leave your thoughts in the guestbook or text me. either way, after consulting with lloyd and paul, they are in agreement that we should do it - it would take a huge backlash from the players to stop the progress now but we are a players club and will listen to any worries of course.

at the same time, i am hoping to bring good news about sponsorship soon and, although its nowhere near a definate, there is a chance it could end up with a change of club name too. i have been told that a few players have discussed this already and their favourite is BLANDFORD TOWN FC. i think this is a cracking idea as it makes us sound all grown up! again, please let me know your sensible thoughts on this asap.

lastly, with training starting on the 9th july and sponsorship still taking shape, we could do with players bringing any footballs they have with them on the first week please, as the club only possesses about 5 at the minute!

footballs
Date: 09/06/06
Thanks to tip-offs from Mike and Wheeler, I hope to contact a couple of potential sponsors in the next week to discuss what they can do to help us. I'm also waiting to hear back from HMR themselves.

In the meantime, with training now starting on 9th July, we need to think about training footballs! If anyone sees a good bargain in the next month and fancies donating to the club, then please feel free to buy one and we can all benefit from that generosity.

Obviously, if we can raise some extra money this year, we can buy more balls and kit but we can't rely on anything at this point. Your help will be appreciated.

new website
Date: 05/06/06
this is just a brief message to inform you that this website will take over from 'in the team', in being our official website from now on.

the main reason being that this one is free and the other was £20 a quarter!

please be patient while i fill in all the details and feel free to give me feedback!
