| Solid League win, no cups.... |
So… with lots of umming and arrrring the one season experiment morphed into a second season of exploration. With new sponsors in Huntsmans Tavern blasting a trail for us we opened the season with what was aptly coined the ‘Season decider’- even though there would be 13 games to follow. We beat Colne Star 2-1 and just had to hold tight from there on.
The following week saw what was possibly one of our best performances of the season against Riverview, in the league Cup. This set the ‘cup’ tone of the following few months where, by the end of January, we had still only played 4 league matches…. Such was the apparent need to get the Wally Castle games out of the way.
With our exit from all the cups by February we started to get regular league games again. Keeping our nerve, scoring plenty of goals and regular clean sheets kept us on target. Ending with a double header, despite several weeks during the season without games, we beat Blue Boar twice to secure the title.
No cup wins this year but the second consecutive league win saw us promoted to the 3rd Division of the Colchester Sunday League.
And so the fun starts again with the club having its third Doctor Who style regeneration in as many seasons. Many thanks to Huntsmans Tavern for all their support, and who we will still frequent, but a new era begins with Blueforces F.C. who have taken over the baton.
So we have done William Hartnell, succeeded with Patrick Troughton and now move to the Jon Pertwee stage (often considered the best one…. lets hope that translates to football…)
