Bookham Colts A team V Hook Youth Match Report. Leatherhead Ad. 17th March 07
Bookhams bite proves too much for Captain Hook
Bookham Colts U7 A team travelled away and took on a powerful Hook Youth at the Chalky Lane ground, winning 4-0 with their best team display this season.
Colts pressure down the right wing saw several confident early attempts at goal from Alex Cooper and Jordan Bond, all narrow misses, Hook responded with a couple of break away attacks but solid defending from Jake Bass on the left and powerful clearances from Thomas Hayling as Right Back kept the game level.
As the game progressed it was clear to all that Bookham were in the ascendancy, Hook were hanging on by their finger nails in a grim struggle for survival. Louie Hill came close with a low drive from the left, whilst Alex cooper was intercepted with a well timed tackle as he closed in on goal.
A fine spell of play from the Bookham midfielders set up several more attempts at goal, pick of the bunch was a well taken half volley by Harry Moore which shaved the post, and a Jordan Bond pile driver that crashed against the crossbar, it was only a string of steady saves by the over worked Hook goalkeeper and his woodwork that prevented a fistful of goals.
Safe handling from Colts keeper Sam Costin kept the defence steady as the occasional Hook counter attack failed to find any chink in Bookham Armour, as the first half drew to a close the relentless Colts attacking pressure finally paid off, with Louie Hill firing home a cracking first and only goal of the half.
The second half began with a determined Hook youth seeking an early equaliser, it was denied them by an equally resolute defender Jake Bass and keeper Sam Costin saving well from close range. Slowly but surely, the tide began to turn as Alex Cooper and Louie Hill picked up the pace for Bookham, they provided midfield dynamo Jordan Bond with the wide support he needed to drill two excellently taken goals past the shell shocked Hook keeper. Bookham had begun to grow in confidence and had taken control of the match once more.
Midfielder Harry Moore was everywhere down the right wing, and a disheartened Hook defence found it harder and harder to cope with his jinking runs, the lad was unlucky not to find the net on several occasions, earning him a well deserved man of the match award for his efforts.
A last rally by Hook was swept up and well cleared by Thomas Hayling to launch a final thrilling Bookham attack in the dying embers of the game, Alex Cooper seized his chance and took the ball on a swerving run that cut Hook apart, a great goal took the final score to 4-0 to the Bookham A team, and capped a fine Colts team victory that delighted one and all.
Colts Coach David Hayling commented later “ I could have given the man of match trophy to anyone of them, they played that well…”
