A baking hot, late morning kick off at Meggetland, with no chance of wind or rain - the only water visible was from the well needed bucket of water and sponges to cool down the players and coaches!
The match kicked off with Katie M in goal, Emma and Katie A in defence, Laurie, Morgan and Grace in the middle with Chloe up front. Purples tried some good passing moves, but the pressure was soaked up by a resolute Broxburn defence and an in form goalie. Time and again the Purples tried to force an opportunity, but the ball would be sent back down the pitch and as a result Broxburn took the lead from a deflected shot (off Katie A) which wrong footed Katie M in goal to give Broxburn the lead against the run of play.
From the kick off, Purples pressed again but were denied by the post and bar. Hunter then picked up a pass from Robin and then jinked past four players and slotted the ball as cool as you like under the advancing keeper - a goal Messi would have been proud of.
HT 1-1
After a team talk and plenty of water, Purples stepped up a gear or 3 and soon were in front with a great one-two with Chloe, Katie A smacked the ball past the keeper. Two minutes later it was 3-1, when again some great interplay between Morgan and Katie A saw a killer pass across goal for Chloe to stab home. The Purples relaxed a bit and began to play a more organised game with everyone being involved. Emma was a stalwart in defence with Katie A and thwarted many a Broxburn attack. She sent over a fizzing cross and was just missed by Chloe.
Robin made it 4-1 soon after with a bullet from the left after Emma had sent her down the wing. Laurie then sent a thunderbolt that was deflected over for a corner and from the resulting corner, Katie A scored after some great work from Grace. Robin bagged her second of the match to make it 6-1 after a neat cut back from Chloe, and further pressure from the Purples, resulted in another corner from Chloe who's pinpoint cross was met expertly by Katie A to bag her hat-trick and make it 7-1.
Robin nearly got her 3rd with a great volley, but it whistled past the post. Grace made it 8-1 late on again after some neat 1-2's with Hunter. Laurie then hit the post from 2 yards, but got her reward a couple of minutes later with a lovely drive from the edge of the box to make it 9-1.
Hunter then hit the post in the closing stages, before the ref called it a day (he looked as hot as everyone else!)
A great result after a bit of a slow start, but with many encouraging signs. Thanks also to Les for his support and hopefully we'll be using his knowledge over the next few months to build our confidence and self belief.
