Notice Board

Thursday Night Training 6-7pm Meggetland 3G starting 19th January
19 Jan 2012

Hello everyone,
As our players leave primary school we find that our teams competing at 13s, 15s and 17s are playing against club sides training twice a week.
Whilst we have players who support the Advanced Player Development Centres, attend, Edinburgh Sports Academy and are in the South East Regional Squads this still leaves the majority of our players with only one session a week.
Providing an extra session a week is difficult in terms of securing availability of the 3G and obviously may clash with other established activities but we would ask you as parents to strongly encourage all the players in the 13sP, 15s and 17s to attend our new Thursday night sessions which will concentrate on the appropriate application of defensive and offensive functional techniques.
We have 2/3rd of the 3G for an hour, Dave Upton is providing the curriculum to complement what we do on Wednesdays,(which remains the main training night) and Ross Bankhead is leading the sessions.
There is no extra cost.
If there are 17s players who cannot make 6pm but can make 7pm than they should be encouraged to join in with our adult squad session which runs from 7pm-8:30pm.
Goalies should also attend from 7pm when Kenny will be available or do both! Any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch. Otherwise see you on Thursday!

All the best.
Gavin

U13's Purples - squad selection policy
17 Jan 2012

We are in the fortunate position of having 13 players in our squad but that does bring with it some difficult decisions about team selection. Therefore we've decided to base selection for both pre-season and the league on the following basis.

Selection procedure
We are going to be taking football much more seriously this year. We believe this U13 team has a huge amount of potential and because of that it is important that we build a squad of players that are committed, put in the effort and know how to play as a team.
On that basis we plan to take a maximum of 10 players to each match, the optimum number will be 9 and selection will be made as follows:

Commitment to matches, effort at training and ability.

Commitment:
Football should by now be the number one priority. We expect all the girls to make themselves available for every match. Of course we can accommodate the occasional clash with another sport, or weekend away, but if you are not available on any given Sunday you will start on the reserve list for the following week.

Training:
At the moment we think the girls are putting in no more than 60% at training. If they want to realise their potential they have to give more at training.
So:
1. Don’t miss training (unless you have a really good excuse like you are playing for the Scottish schools team) or you will automatically be dropped from the Sunday squad.
2. Be there in plenty of time. If you are late, you can expect to on the reserve list.
3. And don’t muck about. Unfortunately discipline has been a problem with this squad and from now on – any bad behaviour at training will mean you are dropped from the squad.

Ability:
Everybody in the team is a good footballer but if everybody is committed and tries hard at training then the match team will be selected on the basis of whom our lead coach, Chris, feels will work best together in certain positions against whomever the opposition may be. We know it all sounds a bit extreme but these are the same principles with which other clubs make their selection at this level. We feel we have some wonderful footballers in this squad and it is important for them to be given the chance to play at the highest level possible.

We’ll obviously be talking to Gavin and Dave about this over the next few weeks so that we can make sure that all the girls are getting the chance to play competitive football, but any queries, feel free to speak to any of us.

Cheers
Chris, Lisa , Paul
