Report

The club had a problem before the first whistle. Jimmy Caruth fell heavily injuring his shoulder in the warm up. Fortunately Danny Stead had just turned up, quickly got changed and went into the left back position a place he has never played. At the break we were 1-0 up from a penalty taken by Mick Wilkinson. Mick should have made it two when we were awarded another penalty but the keeper made a good save. After half time we slowly got on top with Antony Holmes giving their defence all kinds of problems. He hit an excellent brace and should have got his hat trick when we were awarded the third penalty of the game. However the keeper brought off one of the best penalty saves seen for years. Adrian Tomlin hit a fierce shot into the top corner of the net and John Heritage made it five with a great header from a corner. A good team performance from the bare eleven players with no substitutes to call upon. Thomas Bartholomew won the referee's vote for Man of The Match but two players John Heritage and Antony Holmes must have run him very close, both putting in excellent performances.
