The club was formed in 1970 and initially competed in the South Beds Sunday League until moving to the North Home Counties Sunday League in 1975. After winning promotion in its first year to the Premier Division, it went on to become the longest serving team in the Premier until dropping down to
Division 3 of the League in 2003 at its own request due to difficulties
encountered in attracting players of the required quality. During its stay
in the Premier Division, it could quite legitimately claim to have been one
of the best teams in the county for several years winning the Premier
Division in 1981/2 and 1982/3 seasons and reaching three County Cup finals
plus a Whitbread Cup Final. Throughout most of these successful years, the
club played at Brache Sparta's ground and added the name Brache to the name
of the pub in which the club was founded, which has unfortunately now closed down.
The club is currently managed by Gary Marshall, himself a former player and
also FA Vase winner with Arlesey. Gary is assisted by Chris Juraszek who has
been involved in local football for many years. The Club Secretary is Tony
Holmes who has been with the club since its formation and amongst other club
stalwarts is Tony's wife Audrey who has almost single handedly fought to
keep the club going through its lean years.
The club participated in the National Sunday Cup for the first time last season and reached the third round before losing to Wernley F.C. from the Midlands. We had very impressive wins in rounds one and two against Dun Cow from Stevenage and Snodland WMC from Kent.
The club won Division 3 in season 2004/05 under the first year of Gary's managership and won Division 2 in 2005/06.
The squad was strengthened and the decision to go straight into the Premier Div.was vindicated by a 4th.place finish and a defeat on penalties after extra time in the League Cup.The last 32 iof the National Cup was again reached.
For 2007/08 the squad has even greater quality and we look forward on building on the hard work to date.
