As the rain started to fall two hours before kick off, I thought that this may cause a slight problem but as surprising as theUK’s weather is, this was not to be, as the sun decided to then show us what we missed this summer.
The game started off at a great pace and Pucklechurch put us under from the word go, and managed to score within the very first 5 minutes. The Juniors (A’s) have only played one match together this season, so it would take some time before all the players are able to gel with one another. There were players that were played in various positions but as expected this could either work for you or against you, and as we found out in the first half, we were down 3-0, so against you started going through my head. But sometimes we do tend to forget that they are just children out there, having fun whilst playing football and we shouldn’t be to hard on them, but to be supportive in whatever way possible.
As we managed to shuffle things around for the 2nd half, bringing Jamie out of goal made a big difference as an outfield player and we managed to pin the opposition back for larger parts of the half, with his great runs and strength off the ball, he managed to build a good partnership with Matthew and will definitely cause problems for the opposition in the near future, but Matthew just needs to be more confident in himself and shoot when he has a chance.
The defence seemed to be far stronger in the 2nd half, as we only managed to concede one goal. John seemed to be slightly off his game in the 1st half, but did turn things around in the 2nd, but a player that stood out more in defence today was Finnley, who seemed to have a lot more confidence and this showed in his performance today. Brent was played in midfield for the first time, and seemed to be slightly lost, but proved that when placed in goal, we only managed to concede one, so well done.
Our midfield, the work horses of the team, do work very hard, as they assist going forward whilst attacking and have to track back once we lose possession in order to help the defence. This is generally the position I will change with subs on a regular basis, so that each player doesn’t run out of energy.
Joshua, Jack and Noah managed to put in a good shift and worked hard for the team, and this is what football is all about, teamwork.
As small as Jack and Joshua are, this doesn’t throw them off track and makes them more determined to prove a point, well done boys.
Noah also tracked back, when we lost the ball upfront and managed to win it back on a few occasions, well done.
Well done to all of you today, and as you know we get a result based on both games played and not just the first one and this is why we try to make sure that both squads are evenly strengthened.
Stand Out Performance: Finnley
Player of the Match: Jamie
Goals: Jamie (1)
Result: 4-1 (L)
Well done to all!
