Brampton FC
Brampton FC has quickly re-established itself as one of Chesterfield's leading amateur clubs after reforming in 2006.
The original club folded in 2004 after a long and distinguished history. Formed in 1964 by local coal miner, Bob Lowe, the club - then known as Dunston Rovers - began life in the Chesterfield Amateur League.
Several name changes later - including Dunston Red Lion and Dunston Wheatsheaf - the current name of Brampton FC was arrived at in 1983.
Having also played in Nottinghamshire's Sutton and Skegby League, Brampton FC re-joined the Hope Valley League in 1989, following an initial spell in the early 1970s.
A golden spell in the late 1990s and early 2000s saw The Eagles, led by the club's most successful manager of all time, Carl Hayes, twice crowned Hope Valley Premier Division Champions, three times winners of the Lawrence Cup, and once victorious in the Dore Shield.
An aging squad and declining number of players saw the club fail to match its glory days under the subsequent management of Scott Read and it was disbanded at the end of the 2003-04 season when a replacement manager could not be found after Read's resignation.
Former players Andrew Barlow and Sean Boyle stepped forward to re-launch Brampton in the Summer of 2006, winning the backing of Hope Valley committee members to gain re-election to the league's Premier Division.
Brampton returned to their former headquarters at The Grouse Inn, Chatsworth Road, Chesterfield, and their previous home ground, Brookfield Community School, with a mixture of former players and new recruits.
Success has quickly followed. In their first season back The Eagles scored a club first - winning the Derbyshire Junior Cup North after a thrilling final.
Brampton went on to further success in the 2007-08 campaign – winning the Hope Valley Premier Division and Lawrence Cup double.
And, with former player Paul Handford joining the management team ahead of the 2008-09 campaign, Brampton went on to win back-to-back league titles for the first time in the club’s history, and were runners-up in the Dore Shield.
Brampton completed the set of domestic honours since reforming when they won the Dore Shield in 2009-10 – their fifth trophy in just four years.
