Initially, as a dad of one of the players, I just turned up to training and watched on. I gradually found myself getting more and more involved in training sessions and at the games and somehow finished up with the title Assistant Manager but don't recall ever being asked to take up the position. I found it a strange appointment in light of my relatively little previous football experience.



After representing the town team at infant level my football career was cut very abruptly short in my first month of secondary school. I played in the first match for my new school and, as was the norm at that time, took the shirt home for my mum to wash. Without me knowing my mum pinned a note to the shirt which was addressed to our games teacher. In the note she said that the shirt was a disgrace and that the same shirt had been worn by my father some 30 years earlier. The games teacher told me in no uncertain terms that my services would not be required in the following week or for the rest of the season for that matter. I never got to play for the school again ….. thanks mum.



After starting work I tried to resurrect my football career representing the firm I worked for in a Sunday morning league but as you can imagine a team from a firm of Chartered Accountants got quite a bit of stick in the Bacup Pub League and unfortunately one bitterly cold Sunday morning playing up on Bacup Rec I broke my ankle and that was the end football days.



For reasons which I myself still don't understand I then went on to play Rugby Union for a couple of seasons until one game when I managed to break my other ankle.



In addition to helping with the Under 8s I also help with the Club's finances following Andy Hall very kindly volunteering me to take over as Club Treasurer.



I've been a season ticket holder at Man U for 15 years and my son, has been a season ticket holder for the last 3 of those years.



I thoroughly enjoy helping out the club and the team and hope that the lads get what they want from the game.
