It may be an unfamiliar sounding name, but don’t let the ‘Rochester’ fool you. Bredhurst Village Football Club celebrated their 10th Anniversary at the end of the 2007/08 season; the inclusion of Rochester is a nod of respect to their permanent home at Holcombe Sports Ground, where committees on both sides have worked tirelessly to ensure their facilities match their ambitions.
Established in March 1997 by four enthusiastic fathers keen on providing their sons with a worthwhile leisure activity, the club has grown considerably and now has six age groups, with each age group run by a manager and fully qualified coaches. For new players and the stars of tomorrow, there is a Mini Soccer School run on Saturday mornings from 9am onwards at the St. William of Perth Primary School, Canons Close, Rochester for ages 4 and up.
The club successfully achieved the Football Association’s Charter Mark standard within a few years of forming and was recognised with a national award, winning through as the FA's National Charter Club of the year 2005.
It's not all football, football, football - Rochester BVFC prides itself in providing opportunities for the parents and players to let their hair down and have some fun too. Since its formation, the club has run a hugely successful Social Club, which arranges numerous events during the year, quiz nights and race nights proving extremely popular. The big event takes place in May, once the season has finished. Along with the successful teams’ league and cup trophies, each player is presented with an individual trophy as a thank you for their efforts during the season; Sir Trevor Brooking and Andy Hessenthaler are just two amongst many who have attended these to congratulate the teams. To mark the tenth anniversary this year, a special Dinner and Dance took place at Gillingham FC on 10th May, proving extremely popular with calls of ‘More, please!’
Rochester BVFC are keen to build on their successes by strengthening the current squads and will be happy to hear from any player wishing to join. You can find further information and email via the ‘Contact Us’ link on www.bvfc.co.uk . The website will be regularly updated to show trials for age groups when scheduled.
