This week we were away to Feering in what would be our last league game of the season. The Reds were hoping to end on a high and a victory would garuntee a third placed finish and top a good first season of eleven a side football.
The first half was a scrappy affair on what was a very narrow pitch. This made it hard work for the wide men and the game became very congested. It took a neat finish and an impressive corner/shot from Harvey Durling to send the Red-s in at half time with a 2-0 lead, although perhaps it was a little flattening as the performance wasn-t the greatest seen this year.
The message at half time was to go out, keep the ball down and battle for everything. The third goal again involved Harvey Durling although this time as provider rather than scorer. His looped corner allowed Ryan Bourne to head home to put the Reds 3-0 up. The visitors pegged us back though and deservedly got one back to make it 3-1. Some good play and individual skill from Kieran Radford out wide allowed him to put a dangerous ball in. Louis Butcher had made another great run forward and span his body to finish, giving Brightlingsea a three goal advantage. 4-1. Right on the stroke of time, Kieran Radford smashed the ball over the Keepers head from 25 yards to add the final goal of the game. 5-1 to the Reds in a far from comfortable game.
MAN OF THE MATCH this week goes to Louis Butcher as he came on, worked incredibly hard to keep getting up and down the line and battled well. Numerous times he got himself into good goal scoring areas and capped his fine display off with a great finish.
