Earls Colne have the kick off passed to their midfield who pass’s the ball up field to their number 9 who looks up and lob’s the keeper to make 0-1 to Earls Colne in 15 seconds.
5 minutes gone M.Roots wins the ball just inside his own half takes on their midfield then plays it square to Brightlingsea’s midfield who then puts it through to S.Day who turn’s the keeper and puts it in the net to make it 1-1.
Earls Colne come close to scoring when a miss kick by a defender puts the ball at the feet of their number 10, stand in keeper D.Main is quick off his line and makes himself big and 10 puts it wide.
33 minutes gone and Earls Colne get a free kick on left 5 yards outside the Brightlingsea’s penalty area, the kick goes in and 10 heads the ball straight into the keeper’s hands. Last minutes of the half and Earls Colne put a cross in and their 11 puts it just outside the post.
Quick start to the second half and its pretty even.20 minutes played S.Cook picks the ball just outside the penalty area and takes on half of Earls Colne defenders with his quick feet, gives to D.Hill who shots with right and the keeper makes a great save and puts it out for a corner. 3 minutes later Earls Colne defender lumps the ball up field, D.Main keeper for today comes out to meet it and lumps it back up field a defender lets it bounce and S.Cook gets the ball just outside the area takes 3 paces and shots, Earls Colne keeper makes another save and it goes out for a corner, Brightlingsea are the better team at the moment, but the ball just wont go in the net. The Earls Colne keeper is keeping them in the game. Subs for Brightlingsea as S.Day and L.Crawley go off and M.Aingier and L.Gould come one for the last 25 minutes. L.Gould takes a shot from just outside the area for the keeper to make another save and puts it out for a corner, the corner comes in low at the front post and S.Cook takes a shot, keeper makes a save and lands back at S.Cooks feet who shots again, keeper saves again it lands at S.Cooks feet for a second catch he shots this time the keeper catches it and clears it up field. 5 minutes to go and Earls Colne get a free kick 10 yards outside the penalty area on the right. Brightlingsea put 3 in the wall and Earls Colnes number 8 takes the kick its over the wall and straight into the top left to make the score 2-1 to Earls Cone. Good entertaining games to watch, Brightlingsea are unlucky to have lost.

Brightlingsea Bill

Sat Sept 8th:
After a long wait our competitive season got under way with a 12.30 ko away to Lt Oakley Res in the Preliminary Round of the Tommy Thompson Cup.
The 1st target was achieved, not to concede before half time, and against stiff opposition we gave as good as we took before Cooky scored a blinder 25 mins into the second half, with nimble footwork and a shot that hit the bar and went in (see it on line if you don't believe it crossed the line!).
With Oakley pushing forward the back line swallowed all that was sent their way, the midfield was resolute and gave us the opportunity to push forward and grab a couple more through Danny Hill to put the result beyond doubt.
The serious stuff starts next week with a home fixture v the well established Earls Colne Res.
A good enough start, well done everyone.
