It was pleasing to see a good crowd in attendance for this cup final at Wivenhoe. On a nice sunny morning Oyster Legion kicked off facing the sun. Brightlingsea Regent mounted the early pressure and during the first few minutes had the majority of the possession without creating any good goal scoring opportunities.

Play was largely confined to midfield in the early stages but after 30 minutes Brightlingsea Regent went close to opening the scoring when a powerful shot rebounded off an Oyster Legion goalpost.

The second half kicked off with the sun still shining on this warm spring morning.

In the early part of the second half Brightlingsea Regent were having slightly more of the possession without creating too many scoring opportunities.

In the 52nd minute Brightlingsea Regent were awarded a free kick on their left some 10 yards outside the Oyster Legion penalty area. The kick was taken by Wayne Saunders and headed in to the far corner of the goal by Luke Johnston-Pooley to put Brightlingsea Regent ahead.

Being a goal behind Oyster Legion began to play with more urgency but were unable to create many good scoring opportunities. As the game entered the last 15 minutes Oyster Legion began to push forward in greater numbers in search of an equaliser. They managed to push the Brightlingsea Regent defenders back but they were unable to grab the equaliser that they were looking for.

Overall it was an entertaining match that was well controlled by referee David Brine and his two able assistants Denis Stevens and Chris Townes.
