We played a local friendly against Dearne & District in our first 11 aside outing. The girls did really well and were quickly 3 up with goals from Rachel,Kesley and Beth. The new girls really played well and we managed to go in at half time 4-0 with another goal from Rachel. The Dearne keeper was really having a good game and in the second half kept us at bay for a while until Kaydn got her first goal.we carried on attacking and scored again when Kesley got her second with another right foot shoot. The girls carried on working hard and finished winning 9-0 with Kaydn & Beth getting their second goals and Rachel completing an hat trick. This was a good experience for the new girls who played really well.WELL DONE AMY & TIA
In August we travelled to a well organised tournament in Nottingham. The girls were on a roll having won the last two tournaments they had played in.The experience we had at this tournament last year we knew it would be very hard to carry on our winning streak.First game we played Arnold B and drew 0-0.Second game we started to get into our rhythm and won 2-0 with goals from Rebecca & Kesley. The third game saw us punished by two minor mistakes and we lost 2-0 to Arnold A.Fourth game we won 1-0 against Arnold B with a Rachel Williams goal.Fifth game we carried on playing well and won 1-0 with yet another Rachel goal. Our last group game saw us against Arnold A again and the girls played really well but just couldn't score so it ended 0-0.The semi final drew us against Arnoldd B and what a game it was.We threw everything at Arnold but the ball wouldn't go in.We hit the post and everything so with only 50 seconds left Kaydn Snelgrove unleashed a shot from just outside the box and it managed to go in.The third final in a row was a great achievement from the girls but they knew it was going to be hard against Arnold A.The final was brilliant with both teams really cancelling each other out so extra time was needed. In extra time there never looked like a goal so penalties looked the way the game was going to be sorted. But in the last seconds a corner from Arnold saw Kaydn not follow her player and when the corner managed to get by all the players at the front post the Arnold player tapped it in.WELL DONE GIRLS THREE FINALS IN A ROW IS AN AMAZING ACHIEVEMENT SO YOU HAVE TO BE VERY PROUD OF YOURSELVES FOR THIS.I KNOW I AM AND SO ARE THE PARENTS .
The girls returned to the Robin Hood Tournament in Mansfield and this year the weather was on our side.First game saw us win 1-0 with a Beth Howarth goal. The second game we played the hosts and scored early in the game when captain Rachel Williams squared the ball for Courtney to score. From the start we never stopped attacking and Rachel made the final result 2-0.The third game against Arnold A saw us go off the rails and we deservingly lost 2-0.We were still in a good postion to qualify for the final but it all depended on how we reacted to losing a game.Fourth game we played Arnold B again and we struggled. The morale of the team had seen to of gone and arguments were happing all over the pitch so when Rachel scored a draw was the best result.Fifth game against Robin Hood saw us back to our best but we could not get the ball into the net. Finally with only seconds left a long throw was put into the net by a Robin Hood player.Having already qualified for the final against Arnold A, for the last group game i changed the side around. We lost again 2-0 to Arnold A.The final against arnold saw both teams only have one good effort each in the game.So extra time was needed and still no goals. The penalty shoot out was going to be nerve racking.Arnold stepped up first a just scored 1-0.Captain Rachel took our first and scored 1-1.Arnolds second penalty was saved by Sammy.Sammy stepped up and scored 2-1.The last Arnold player stepped up and missed the target so the girls retained the trophy they won last year.WELL DONE GIRLS.
Today saw us go to the well established Brinsworth Whitehall Tournament and what a lovely sunny day it was.The girls in their first game played Dronfield and drew 0-0.Second game we played the hosts Brinsworth and we played really poorly and lost 1-0 but during the game we had a freak incident when Kesley was really hurt after the ball hit her straight in the face. The third game we managed to sneak a win 1-0 against Thorncliffe A with a goal from Beth Howarth. The fourth game the girls were really emotional when it was looking that Kes was needing to go to hospital. The girls worked hard and from a brilliant three pass move Rachel squared the ball to Beth who scored.Handsworth B never gave up and was rewarded with an equaliser when there was a mix up at the back.A 1-1 draw was still good enough to put us into the Quarter finals. The quarter final draw saw us play Steel City from the other group and at this point Kes was on her way to Hospital in the back of an ambulence. The girls emotions were all over the place and showed in their performance.Steel City took the lead with only a couple of minutes left but straight from the re start Captain Rachel Williams shot from the kick off and scored a magnificent goal.A penalty shoot out determined who went to the semi's.The girls just sneaked it 2-1 and were straight on the phone to tell kes.The semi final brought us up against Brinsworth again and the game was evenly matched all the way through so another penalty shoot out.The girls did me proud and won 3-1 putting them into the final. The final saw us play Crosspool who where a very tough side and had already won some tournaments this year. The game was very evenly matched again and went to another penalty shoot out.crosspoll took the first and was saved by Sammy but the power in the shot badly damaged her hand.Rachel stepped up with our first and scored into the top right corner 1-0 up.Sammy stood bravely with her damaged hand but couldn't stop a well taken penalty 1-1.kaydn stepped up and unfortunatley hit her penalty at the keeper.crosspool scored again to make it 2-1.sammy stepped up and rifled her penalty into the bottom corner 2-2.The next penalty Crosspool scored to make it 3-2 but in trying to save it Sammy injured herself yet again.beth struck a sweet penalty to make it 3-3 with one more each to come.Up stepped the Crosspool keeper herself and Sammy saved it come on.the fifth penalty was to be taken by our rock in defence Kleighn Scott.Kleighn is more known for preventing goals not scoring them but what a penalty probably the best taken out of all the girls. What an achievment girls and thank god Kes is alright and that Sammy didn't break her wrist .WELL DONE GIRLS VERY PROUD OF YOU'S AND LIKED THE WILLINGNESS TO WIN FOR KESLEY.
I decided to give the younger girls the experience of playing in a tournament for their age.The girls started brilliantly with a 0-0 draw with the hosts Hemsworth. The second game the girls played Howden and lost 1-0 due to none of them being a keeper. In the third game the girls showed how good they can play football and won Ossett 3-0 with Beth scoring 2 & Laura 1.In the fourth game we knew we had qualified to the semi's so it gave me chance to tinker about to try and find a girl to fill the void in goals.Catherine did really well for us and we drew 0-0 in the game with Rothwell. The semi saw us play the hosts Hemsworth again but this time we lost 1-0 to a silly goal when the Hemsworth goalie cleared the ball and the ball just bounced and bounced until it rested in our goal.Unfortunate but good to see the younger girls play at their age so WELL DONE GIRLS.
