There is an old clech`e, that says,' if you play bad, and still win, your not a bad team'. Then after todays performance I can see the merit of that senario. The play was scratchy, with very little penitration from either side. Only a couple of moments to talk about in the first half, Christopher McNallys, sissor kick ,that struck the outside of the post, for Ashton Town, and Craig Jerrards quality save, from Brodsworths Paul Bradley, when it looked like the striker had beat the offside trap. The ball did end up in the Ashton goal, this was from a thirty yard strike from Lee Snodin, which left Jerrard with no chance. The goal was ruled out though, as referee M.T.Jones, said he had blown for time, before the shot was struck. Although he had blown for time, FOUR MINUTES premiturly . So the first half finished 0-0 after 41 minutes of play.
In the second half of the match, the Brodsworth team stepped up a gear, this should have been easy to do, as most of them had not been involved in the first half, I think this is called 'cheating' and there had been several players willing to do this. The movement was much better, and the passing much chrisper, half chances where created by the home side, but has yet, no finishing product. This was to change on 70 minutes, when Bryan Craig, skipped past Fawsett, & Wood, then cleverly lobbed the ball over the on rushing Jerrard, to put Broddy, into a desrved lead 1-0. I say a deserved lead, because the lively team, in the first half ,from lancashire, where totaly snuffed out, in the second period. not being allowed a single shot on target in the whole 45 minute period. The Brodsworth management of Sennett & Turner, decided to unleash top scorer, Liam Wilkin, from the subs bench, along with Ryan Malee, on 75 minutes, these are perhaps the quickest two players at the club, The pace of the two, and strenth of Malee, was to open the door within minutes of their arrival. Wilkins asstute run, enabled him to vertually seal the victory for Brodsworth with a nice low finish into the bottom corner of the net. 2-0. 84 minutes played. Darren Fell, extended the score line ,with the goal of the game, as he thundered home a great goal, from what seemed a very accute angle, on 88minutes. The players shook hands, we thanked the ref, and we travel to Rossington Main FC,in a fortnights time for the next round.
Summing up:
A lack lustre performance in the first half, perhaps due to the hard working opposition, much better in the second half, pleased to keep a clean sheet, and although we had players missing, and others playing out of possition we did OK, JUST.
