General Old Boys finished their last ever campaign with a highly creditable win against Westbury Celtic -c- who have finished runners up. Westbury looked a decent enough side but the partnership of first teamers Alby Crawford and Jamie Hatfield gave the defence a solid look in front of the much improved Aaron Collins between the sticks. In midfield James Mckeon was his usual impressive self and Craig Swallow looked full of running in attack.
Although Westbury dominated the early stages and had several long range shots, they didn-t really look like scoring. The Old Boys for all their effort didn-t create much so it came as something of a surprise when they took the lead with 5 minutes of the first half remaining. Craig Swallow chased down a Marc Cartwright ball and was clipped in the area for a penalty. Craig took the spot kick which was saved, his first follow up was also saved, but he wasn-t going to let the moment pass as he smashed home the loose ball into the roof of the net.
Half time 1-0.
The second half was much like the first as both teams began to suffer in the heat and Westbury-s temper began to fray and this led to a couple of booking for them. The Old Boys continued to stand firm and Aaron Collins made a couple of very good saves. As the match came to a close the Old Boys looked the fitter with all the sub-s having an impact and the held out to record an excellent victory and close this chapter of the Club-s history on a high.
Final Score 1-0
Man of the match James McKeon
