Two in Two sees perfect start to September.

Stronger defending, riding our luck and scoring at crucial times has seen BT make a perfect start to September and rise to mid table in the league. Who would have guessed we would play defending champions, Grundisburgh next Saturday, 6 places above them in the league. Last week saw our first Senior Home game at Trimley Sports and Social Club. The facilities are a real credit to the SIL and a big thank you to the staff at the club for organising food for both teams and offering a friendly environment for the after match debates and discussions. As for the match, BT welcomed Scott Peat in goal for his competitive debut. His experience at a far higher level was a real benefit to the players in front of him. Things didn’t start well for BT as captain Karl Knights seriously damaged his knee and had to be taken to hospital before half time. This led to Adam Percy switching to the right and he combined well with Peter Coleman to set up Stuart Broad to score our first. We could of and should of added more early in the second half before Haughley had their best spell, but were unlucky not to equalise when a superb effort came back of the inside of the post with Peat well beaten. BT went up the other end and Mann drilled home from just inside the box. Broad completed the scoring with a penalty late on to secure our first points of the season. This week saw us travel to East Bergholt hoping not to be on the backlash after they were well beaten the week before. With Knights, White and Pete Coleman all out, Page rearranged the defence and changed the system in order to keep East Bergholt at bay. Ben Arnold gave BT a half time lead with a superb individual goal, surely the first of many Senior Goals this season, for last year’s Player’s Player of the Year. East Bergholt came out all guns firing in the second half and deservedly equalised early in the second half. This brought the introduction of Ian Bell and BT reverted to a more traditional 4-4-2 with Stuart Broad sitting in behind the front 2. It took time to readjust and Scott Peat made 2 excellent saves to deny East Bergholt the lead. However, BT began to find space again and good work between, Arnold, Broad and Bell saw Ian score a well taken goal. The three combined again minutes later, this it was Broad who found the net to seal a hard thought 3 points for BT. The reserves lost for two weeks on the trot, missed chances at Bramford were costly, but apparently they were beaten by the better team in Stanton last week. Let’s hope they keep their heads up as many have made the step up from ‘A’ Team football, they should look to the example being set by Matthew Coleman as an inspiration. He has gone from ‘A’ Team to Senior League and has most minutes under his belt this season in the first team. Remember training Wednesday night at Trimley 7.30pm start.
