'THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN LIFE IS NOT THE TRIUMPH BUT THE STRUGGLE'!!
As reported in various places the two promotion spots to the senior division came down to the results of final match day of the season with Coplestonians and Ipswich Exiles claiming their places in the top flight at the expense of Westerfield, Wenhaston and ourselves.
We congratulate Cops and Exiles on their success and commiserate with Westerfield and Wenhaston who, like us, came so close to going up.
Perhaps when the dust settles all the clubs in the final shake up will reflect that they were involved in an exciting season of football where the standard was, arguably, the best it has been in the division for several seasons.
On the final day BT were just not quite clinical enough in the final third whilst Exiles capitalised on their chances to edge the game 3-1.
Messrs Wakeling, Stokes and Webb officiated the game with calm efficiency as both teams sought to gain an advantage in a match with so much at stake. Exiles went in a goal up from a penalty before Adam Percy equalised just after the interval.
BT failed to take advantage of several promising opportunities before two goals in five minutes gave Exiles a margin they were never going to pass up.
The last three years have seen BT evolve into a competitive side and the aim is to be even better next season; the division will be as tough as this one with Ransomes and Framlingham re-grouping following relegation and Westerfield and Wenhaston (and others) all looking to gain senior division status.
Off the field too BT have made progress and plans are already taking shape to develop the reserves set up next year with Kev Hudson and Scott Reeve at the helm. George Bone has taken charge of the club website and new sponsors are being sought to help with the club's infra-structure.
The end of season party takes place at Church's next Saturday and a golf day is planned for the 24th June at Cretingham. Details from Scott or Dave.
In paraphrasing Baron De Coubertin (founding father of the modern Olympic Games) at the top of these notes I would like to place on record both BT's and my personal heartfelt thanks to the officials of the SIL and the referees ... all of whom are so vital for the local game.
Finally my sincere thanks to players and committee members at BT with whom it is genuine privilege and pleasure to work with. Maybe if we all struggle even more we will triumph next year.
To all readers of these notes I wish an enjoyable summer and look forward to seeing you next year.
