Report

Saturday 18th February 2012

Torpoint Athletic 0 Buckland Athletic 4.

Between 15 and 20 Buckland followers took the trip on the ferry to The Mill where Buckland faced Torpoint this afternoon, it was a cold windy day and following an hour or so of quite heavy rain when we arrived we were not surprised to see some water lying on the pitch but it was given the all clear by the Referee.

The starting line-up for Buckland was;

Kenny Griffiths, Liam Drew, Danny Gaze, Gary Fisher, Marc Revell, Mike Booth, Danny Lewis, Liam Moseley, Gavin Hammon, Chris Wright and Dean Stevens.

And the substitutes were;

Ben Clarvis, Cameron Kelly and Dan Griffiths.

The early exchanges between the two side were fairly even with Buckland making some good passes in midfield leading to some near misses by the Buckland forwards.

Buckland broke the deadlock quite early after only 17 minutes. Some nifty footwork by Danny Gaze was followed by a very good ball whipped into the box, first touched by Chris Wright who laid it for Mike Booth rolled it back to the edge of the 18 yard box where Liam Moseley smashed the ball through the players in the box, past the goal keeper and into the roof of the net.

Almost straight from the re-start Buckland got held of possession and the ball was kicked forward into the path of Gavin Hammon. He was being chased down by a Torpoint defended who looked to have knocked the ball back to Torpoint’s keeper. Somehow there was some miss-communication and he dropped the ball opening an opportunity for Gavin to roll the ball into the net, he seemed embarrassed to score a goal like this but they all count and they gave Buckland a 2-0 lead within the first 20 minutes.

No more goals were scored in the first half but many chances came close for Buckland, Torpoint rarely troubled the Buckland defence and Kenny in goal although they had one good chance when a ball was kicked down the middle of the field with a Torpoint forward running on to it, with only a few defenders in the box the striker stuck the ball and Kenny Griffiths in goal was forced to slide his foot across the line to keep the ball from going in.

The referee who Buckland have had on many occasions this season drew an end to the first half and Buckland looked fairly pleased with how their game had been going so far but the followers thought there were defiantly some more goals to come in the 2nd half.

As the game started once more it was Torpoint that got off to the better start, they looked more energetic and were pushing forward but the Buckland defence held strong and did not let anything past them.

It took until the 78th minute for the third goal of the game to be scored and once more it came from Buckland. Gary Fisher was the scorer of this and it seemed fair to say the points were going back to Devon but the game was not over yet.

Skipper Danny Lewis completed the scoring 4 minutes from time, he collected the ball just outside the eighteen yard box and he then went past a couple of Torpoint defenders and struck to the goalkeepers low left, the goalkeeper who had not had the best of games came nowhere near the ball and the score was now 4-0 to Buckland. The players leapt on top of Danny and they make it very clear how much winning means to them.

The referee brought an end to proceedings and if honest the score line may not show a true reflection of the game. Torpoint offered little in the attacking area and if Buckland’s finishing was a little stronger at times it could have been 6 or 7.

My Man of the Match- Danny Lewis, thought he was very strong in centre midfield, pushing forward and netting for the Bucks today.

Amy.
