Barton United 1-2 Village FC Birmingham Saturday Vase Round 1Saturday 15th October 2011.
Barton failed to master a resilient Village FC side in this exciting cup tie finally losing out in extra time 2-1.
Barton began the game with purpose with early chances falling to Simon Wczasek and Rob Houston. Village gained their composure and began to get their game on stream. Village were rewarded when they took advantage of a mistake by Barton in midfield, Matt Wood took the ball towards goal and struck a long range shot into the top right hand corner with Chris Halling having no chance in the Barton goal.
The second half didn’t disappoint with both teams playing some nice free flowing football with chances at both ends. Barton kept pushing and were rewarded in the 91st minute when Greg Smith equalised from a header over the Village keeper into the empty net taking the game into extra time.
Game on with both teams striving hard but the deadlock was broken at the end of the first half when Village took the lead from close range shot following Barton’s failure to clear the cross. Both teams pushed for the second period of extra time but Barton were unable to score, leaving Village victors.
