Report

Buxton JFC Cobras u12s 4 South Normanton Colts u12s 3

For the second time this season the 2 sides shared 7 goals but this time it was Cobras who scored in the last minute to dent the visitors title hopes. Cobras started well and had a couple of early chances but it was Normanton who scored first when a ball over the top wasn't cleared and the striker ran through to score, Cobras looked shaken but started passing the ball superbly and they soon equalised after some good work from Lisser, Mellor and Trotter the ball fell to Moss whose shot was blocked but the ball fell to Hodgkinson who side footed home.  Hodgkinson then gave Cobras the lead after some neat passing with Goodwin his shot beating the stranded keeper. Cobras were soon in dreamland as more excellent passing led to Moss feeding Lisser, his cross was cleared to the edge of the area where Goodwin  hit a super strike in the bottom corner for a 3-1 lead. South Normanton then showed why they are champions as they had their best spell of the game but Thoresen and Page were having really solid games in the centre of the defence and were ably helped by the full backs Taylor and Salt. Hodgson was having another excellent game in  goal with his handling superb at times but Normanton did pull one back right on half time to set the 2nd half up perfectly. The 2nd half struggled to live up to the excitement of the first half as Cobras seemed to lose their way with the passing not up to the same standard and with them carrying a couple of injuries and having no subs they struggled to make many chances, but with Moss having a really solid game in front of the defence Normanton were also hitting a brick wall in their attempts to draw level. Just as it seemed that the impressive Cobras backline were going to hold out, with 5 mins remaining a horrible bounce on the hard pitch allowed a Normanton player to touch home the equaliser. To their credit Cobras didn't let their heads drop but they pushed for the winner and with seconds remaining Mellors long punt forward caused confusion in the defence and when a defender looped the ball in the air Moss calmly headed over the advancing keeper much to the delight of the Cobras players and support. In the end Cobras deserved the victory because of the quality of their passing ,especially in the 1st half and this should give them the belief for next season that they can go on and start winning trophies.Team;Hodgson, Taylor, Salt, Page, Thoresen, Trotter, Goodwin, Lisser, Moss, Mellor, Hodgkinson.
