Report

Buxton Town ended an excellent season on Friday night by lifting the Lawrence Cup as they saw off Holmesfield at Tideswell.
A great playing surface meant both teams could put a show on for the crowd but despite starting well Town fell behind in the 9th minute when Jack Hargreaves bent a free kick around the wall into the net.

Holmesfield were a hardworking side as they closed Town down quickly but Joe Burgess and Josh Greaves were both finding plenty of space in the wide areas as they created opportunites for Town.
The Town equaliser arrived in the 22nd minute when Danny Ball picked out the run of Colin Moss who challenged the keeper and the ball broke free for Greaves who provided an excellent finish.
As the half-time whistle blew Town went in knowing they could lift the tempo of their game and they came out for a much improved second half where they took control of the game.
Buxton took the lead when Moss picked the ball up on the right and cut inside before bending his shot into the corner of the net.
The introduction of Matt Clark had a huge impact on the game as he terrorised the Holmesfield back four and within minutes of joining the action Clark increased Town's lead as he found space in the area and saw his shot nestle in the bottom corner.
Jace Broome and George Burgess were outstanding in the middle as they kept the ball well for Town and Burgess was unlucky to see a shot flash wide of goal following a good move.
The game looked to be over when Joe Burgess drove into the area from the left and smashed a shot into the net in the 65th minute.
Holmesfield have been a credit to the premier division this season and they showed their fighting spirit when Ross McDonald's free kick was guided into the net by Ben Brown.
Town were now on the back foot as Holmesfield looked to get back in the game but skipper Richard Mirams was superb and drove his team on with some excellent defending.
Town almost increased their lead again when a Moss corner was met by a bullet header from Ball who saw his header cleared off the line by Jack Sheppard, as the ball came back out it was smashed against the post by George Burgess.
Holmesfield made it a nervy last few minutes for Town when they pulled one back in the 88th minute but Town saw it out to cap a fantastic season with skipper Mirams collecting the impressive trophy aswell as the league's man of the match award.
